Jaipur is often a guest’s first taste of Rajasthan, and for many international visitors it’s the Rajasthan stop on a short India trip. This guide brings together the latest visitor figures, the travel patterns behind them, the seasons and events, and the connectivity that makes Jaipur easy to reach.
How many tourists visit Jaipur?
Jaipur district recorded 81.49 lakh domestic and 2,56,293 foreign tourist visits from January to June 2026, according to Rajasthan Tourism Department data reported by Travel Trade Journal in August 2026.[1]
| District (January to June 2026) | Domestic visits | Foreign visits |
|---|---|---|
| Jaipur | 81.49 lakh (5th in Rajasthan) | 2,56,293 (1st in Rajasthan) |
| Rajasthan total | 10.83 crore | 8.44 lakh |

By our calculation, Jaipur had about 30% of all foreign tourist visits recorded in Rajasthan from January to June 2026. Sikar, Chittorgarh, Jaisalmer and Ajmer recorded more domestic visits than Jaipur.[1]
Two cautions. These are district visit counts compiled by the state, not unique travellers, and they’re half-year figures; we couldn’t find full-year district figures for 2025. For the state as a whole, the national tourism ministry recorded 25.25 crore domestic and 19.45 lakh foreign visits to Rajasthan in 2025.[2]
How do Golden Triangle travellers use Jaipur?
The Golden Triangle links Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, and it’s the classic short itinerary for international visitors. Jaipur’s heritage is a big part of that pull: Jaipur City has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2019,[3] the Jantar Mantar since 2010, and Amber since 2013 as one of the Hill Forts of Rajasthan.[4] PIB described the walled city as an example of 18th-century city planning, with landmarks including the City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal.[3]
Because the Golden Triangle packs three cities into one trip, Jaipur stays on these itineraries tend to be short and sightseeing-heavy, with guests arriving by road or rail from Delhi or Agra. Some extend the trip to Udaipur, Jodhpur or Ranthambore, which is an opportunity for a hotel that helps plan the next leg.
Who else visits Jaipur?
Jaipur’s guest mix is wider than tourism alone:
- Weekenders from Delhi NCR. The expressway section opened in February 2023 was expected to cut the Delhi to Jaipur drive from 5 hours to about 3.5,[7] and the Ajmer to Delhi Cantt Vande Bharat, Rajasthan’s first, serves Jaipur.[8]
- International visitors, for whom Jaipur’s airport is a direct gateway (see below).
- Business and MICE travellers, for the state capital’s government, trade and events. We haven’t found reliable public figures on their share.
- Event visitors, for the Jaipur Literature Festival, the Kite Festival and other festivals. See our Jaipur events calendar for hotels.
- Families and wedding parties, also part of Jaipur’s mix, though we haven’t found reliable public data on their size.
When is Jaipur busiest?
Winter. Rajasthan Tourism describes October to March as the best season for the state, with mild weather and major festivals, and summer from April to June as harsh.[9] There’s no official monthly count of Jaipur visitors, but the national pattern for foreign arrivals points the same way: December is India’s busiest month, followed by January, November and February.[2]
Two fixed points in Jaipur’s winter:
- Kite Festival, 14 January every year, according to Rajasthan Tourism, which says the festivities peak in Jaipur.[11]
- Jaipur Literature Festival, which returns for its 20th edition from 14 to 18 January 2027 at Hotel Clarks Amer, according to the festival’s official site.[10]
How is Jaipur connected?
Jaipur is Rajasthan’s best-connected city, which shapes who can come and how long they stay.
| Link | Status | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Jaipur airport | Designated immigration post for international arrivals | MHA notification, 1 September 2025[6] |
| Air traffic | 56,27,147 passengers in 2025-26 (down 7.1%); international 5,74,923 (up 9.2%), domestic 50,52,224 (down 8.7%) | AAI[5] |
| Delhi Mumbai Expressway (Delhi to Dausa to Lalsot) | Opened February 2023; Delhi to Jaipur about 3.5 hours | PIB[7] |
| Ajmer to Delhi Cantt Vande Bharat, via Jaipur | Since April 2023 | PIB[8] |
The airport figures are worth a closer look: total passengers fell in 2025-26, but international passengers grew.[5] If foreign guests matter to you, that’s a reason to make international booking and payment easy.
Where does demand concentrate in Jaipur?
There’s no official data on where visitors stay, so this is a description, not a ranking. Hotels cluster in three broad areas:
- The walled city, the UNESCO-listed core with its bazaars, palaces and havelis.[3] Small heritage-style properties sell on atmosphere and walkability.
- Towards Amer, for guests who want to be near the fort and the hills.
- Newer areas, near business districts, malls and the airport, which suit business travellers, families with cars and late arrivals.
Each area suits a different guest. Say clearly which one you’re in, how long it takes to reach the others, and who you’re best for.
What this means for hotel owners
- Know which Jaipur guest you serve. Golden Triangle tourists, Delhi weekenders, business travellers and event visitors want different things. Your website should speak to the ones you actually get.
- Plan the winter early. Set rates and minimum stays for January’s festivals and the December to February peak by early autumn. Our events calendar lists the dates.
- Win Delhi weekenders directly. Fast WhatsApp replies and a clear weekend package beat a long OTA list for a guest deciding on Thursday.
- Make foreign guests easy. International passengers at Jaipur are rising; international payments and a reliable Form C routine matter.
- Compete on what chains can’t copy. See how independent Jaipur hotels can compete with chains, homestays and OTAs.
