Udaipur Tourism Trends 2026: What Hotel Owners Need to Know

Udaipur is one of the few Indian cities where the local tourism office’s monthly figures are regularly reported, which makes it possible to see the season curve in real numbers. This guide brings together the 2025 figures, who visits and when, the connectivity changes under way, and what they mean for an independent hotel.

How many tourists visit Udaipur?

About 21.6 lakh tourists visited Udaipur in 2025: 19,96,700 domestic and 1,61,087 foreign, according to Tourism Department figures reported by Udaipur Times in January 2026.[1]

2024 2025 Change
Domestic 18,55,300 19,96,700 +7.62%
Foreign 1,55,350 1,61,087 +3.69%
Total 20,10,650 21,57,787 about +7.3%

Source: Tourism Department figures via Udaipur Times.[1][2] The total for 2025 and its change are our calculation from the two figures.

Two points of context from the same report: domestic arrivals fell to about 3.55 lakh in 2020, during the pandemic, and foreign arrivals are still below their 2018 level of 2,07,016.[1]

How to read these numbers: they’re city figures compiled by the local tourism office and reported by a local newspaper, not part of the national tourism ministry’s published tables, and we couldn’t find the underlying data published by the department itself. Use them for trends and seasons, not as precise counts.

The state also reports figures by district, which count differently. Rajasthan Tourism Department data for January to June 2026, reported by Travel Trade Journal, put Udaipur district at 47.61 lakh domestic and 1,84,045 foreign visits in those six months.[10] That’s far higher than the city office’s figures for all of 2025, because the series cover different areas and count visits differently. Compare like with like: city with city, district with district.

When is Udaipur busiest?

October to January is the busy period, based on the monthly figures reported for 2025.

Month (2025) Tourists Same month in 2024
January 2,16,150 (1,95,000 domestic, 21,150 foreign) 2,07,931
September 1,62,522
October 2,50,145 (2,33,000 domestic, 17,145 foreign) 1,72,490
November and December combined about 4,98,184

Sources: Udaipur Times reports of Tourism Department data.[2][3] The November and December figure is our calculation: the year’s total minus the 16,59,603 recorded up to October.[2]

The same arithmetic gives a picture of the quieter months. January to October 2025 totalled 16,59,603; taking out January, September and October leaves about 10.31 lakh for February to August, or roughly 1.47 lakh a month on average, by our calculation. That’s well below the 2 lakh-plus peak months of 2025.

Rajasthan Tourism describes winter as the state’s best season and recommends July to September for travellers who want to avoid crowds, naming Udaipur as a monsoon highlight.[4] Winter also brings events: Rajasthan Tourism lists the Udaipur World Music Festival among the state’s winter festivals,[4] and the ten-day Shilpgram Festival runs from 21 to 30 December.[5]

What kind of guests visit Udaipur?

Mostly domestic leisure travellers. Domestic visitors were about 92.5% of the 2025 total and foreign visitors about 7.5%, by our calculation from the department’s figures.[1]

  • Foreign visitors lean towards winter. They were about 9.8% of January 2025’s visitors but about 6.9% of October 2025’s, by our calculation.[2][3]
  • Weddings, events and business groups are also part of Udaipur’s mix, but we haven’t found reliable public data on their size, so treat any precise figure you see with caution.
  • Air travellers are only part of the picture: Udaipur airport handled 18,19,531 passengers in 2025-26, almost all domestic, and those figures include residents and business travellers as well as tourists.[8]

How is connectivity to Udaipur changing?

Rail links have improved, and a bigger airport terminal is coming.

The Ahmedabad train matters for weekend demand from Gujarat, and its 22:00 arrival means late check-ins for guests who use it.[6]

Where does demand concentrate in Udaipur?

Around the lakes and the old city, with day trips further out. Rajasthan Tourism describes Udaipur as the City of Lakes, founded in 1553 by Maharana Udai Singh II as the capital of Mewar, and lists Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar Lake among its attractions.[5]

  • Lake Pichola and the old city: the classic Udaipur picture of palaces, ghats and rooftop views. Small properties here sell on view and location.
  • Fateh Sagar and the surrounding area: a lakeside promenade and the island solar observatory, which Rajasthan Tourism notes is the only one in India located on an island.[5]
  • Beyond the city: Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur, which Rajasthan Tourism names as summer destinations,[4] and Menar, a village about 48 km away known for migratory birds in winter.[5]

For an independent hotel, the question is how guests reach you from these places, and how you describe that online.

What this means for hotel owners

  1. Plan for the real season. October to January carries the year. Set peak rates, minimum stays and staffing for those months early, and price February to August to fill rooms.
  2. Sell the monsoon. Rajasthan Tourism actively recommends Udaipur in the monsoon.[4] Lake views, greenery and fewer crowds are a real offer; our off-season playbook has ideas.
  3. Court Gujarat weekenders. The Ahmedabad Vande Bharat makes a Friday-evening arrival easy. Have a late check-in routine and a weekend package ready.
  4. Get ready for foreign guests without betting on flights. International payments and a reliable Form C routine help now. See our international guests checklist.
  5. Win the booking directly. Udaipur guests choose on view and location; make those clear on your own site.
